Here’s the third Winter Stitchette, Parker’s Purchases. I didn’t make it down to Michigan Avenue during the holidays like I’d hoped to, but Parker was there.
Tomorrow, Charlie.

I’m so glad you guys are digging the Winter Stitchettes! They’re about the only thing I’ve got going right these days. The rest of the week has been filled with swings and misses. Like our first try at getting a house that totally fell apart. That’s an awesome feeling. Or my attempt to be diligent and responsible about the car and get that little leak looked into that has turned into a major expense. Or more light heartedly like this little snowsuit I tried to whip up for the
make-a-longs so I could take advantage of the 1/4″ of snow we got. Well, it’s good for a laugh at least!
I’d thought all the bumps in the road we’re giving me a nervous stomach until I realized it was baby in there fluttering! Who can stay dejected with fluttering baby stomach. It’s the very definition of optimism. Unless of course he’s in there kicking around “mom, mom! where’s my new room? you’d better get cracking, I’m fluttering here! maybe you should go look at houses tonight. mom! mom!”
Winter Stitchette number two…
the perfect day for the first of the Winter set of Stitchettes, Izzie on Ice…
hope
everyone had a nice weekend. ours was three day! a nice perk of the
non-for-profit job tim has. I’d tell you all about it, but unless
taxes, house hunting, budgeting and closet cleaning are your thing you
might want to look elsewhere for blog enjoyment. have you checked all
these yet today?
Thanks for all your birthday wishes over the weekend! That Amy sure is sneaky. It was a swell birthday and two birthday dinners, two birthday cakes (thanks Katie and Tim!) and a box full of cookies (thanks Amy!) later I’m stuffed and happy. I got some great loot too including these antique mall finds from my in-laws. I picked them out last Fall during their visit and like a good birthday girl, had completely forgotten about them, so I was very happily surprised.
The gal on the left is a napkin holder and the fellow on the right a crayon box.
This weekend I finally found the right fabric to finish up my baby quilt idea and a certain little someone’s preschool starts up again this week so I have high hopes of a finished project soon.
Here’s a cheerful little Thursday post. One of my favorite Christmas presents this year, a wooden mobile of smiling faces from my Mom. It’s an ebay find, by a Finnish company, Aarikka.
I’ve started thinking — a lot — about the new baby’s nursery. Thing is, we don’t actually have a nursery for him/her. Still need to find the house that extra room is in. But when we find it, and I’m optimistic we will, I’ll be all set with my paint picked out and my bedding made! We found the perfect blue for Oscar’s room and now I’m on a quest to find the perfect creamy yellow for the baby’s room. I want to have a yellow and white room with some red accents in a simple country shaker sort of style. Obviously very influenced by my small collection of old Martha Stewart Babies magazines which is where these images below are from.
The fabric from yesterday (American Jane Building Blocks by Moda) just jumped out at me at the quilt shop and demanded I stop all that other real work and start making baby things straight away. I have a simple quilt idea started that I’m trying to get out real quick and then I can go back to stitching up the Winter Stitchettes. In other serial news, Make-a-long has been delayed unfortunately. I went to my local yarn store to pick up supplies over a month ago and found it closed for good. A very dismaying trend here in Oak Park as taxes and rents go up and up and all the small shops are put out of business. So I ordered my yarn from Patternworks and I’m still waiting (and waiting and waiting) for it to arrive. I was hoping to knit over Christmas but no luck. I may have to venture outside my burg.
In other news, if you haven’t started bidding yet get in there… The Kim Family Benefit Auction starts today and they have so many beautiful things up for auction.
