girl thrift

I realized last weekend that I hadn’t been to the thrift store since I found out this baby is a girl! so we had to rectify that straight away. found some fun stuff…

pillowcases to make her little sundresses from…

folky purse, heart overalls and sailor dress…

and because something had to be pink, for our cute little bundle…

thank you Vicki!

Ok, I’m starting to get pretty excited when the postman rings my bell. Of course today he punished me for my eagerness by delivering maternity underwear and stamps. But look what he brought me yesterday! This gorgeous little doll quilt from Vicki!

Isn’t it yummy! Is it my pregnant-ness or does it make everyone want to dive head first into a strawberry shortcake. Getting to that point where everything reminds me of a treat. I just love these bright colors and  look at the hand quilting! And the little embroidery in the corner. It’s just so sweet. Thank you Vicki, I love it!

And looks like Vicki is hooked on the tiny quilts, click over and sign up for your chance to win one of your own. I’m sitting on my hands to keep from signing up myself. I may have to pick up another one from her shop.

Oliver Observes

Oliver here is Spring Stitchette number 2. He was inspired by Oscar’s newfound fascination with binoculars. The big fat curls were a repeat suggestion from the readers and they’re awfully cute. thanks guys!

Last night I was working on his partner in crime, Miles Mows, and after nearly erasing through the paper to get it right realized that his carefully rendered push mower just ended up looking like he was riding a segway! Not really what I was going for so I scrapped it and started over. Turns out I’m so much happier with what I ended up with. Can’t wait to stitch it up. Funny how that works.

Happy Spring everyone!

doll quilt

Well this turned out better than I expected. Oscar wouldn’t give up the work table while we were working in the craft room so I had to cut this out in my lap while sitting at the sewing machine. I love the non-fussiness of doll quilts. Embrace the wonky!

the floral fabric is from a thrifted bedspread, the big green dot from superbuzzy and the little green dot from somewhere, hobby lobby maybe? quilt is 19" x 21"

I’m heeding the excellent advice of Gretchen and crafting until the last possible moment! Time to get off the computer and tackle Oscar’s new covers.

between

It’s getting to that point where I need to figure out how much more I can tackle project-wise before I have to stop crafting and start packing. This weekend we took a family trip to the quilt shop to find all the fabrics for Oscar’s new duvet cover. I’d love to get it done before we move but tackling a big scale project like that in this chaos is daunting. But then tackling the chaos is even more so. Maybe tiny projects like wee pincushions are a better idea.

To you bunny pattern orderers – thank you so much!! They’re all on their way. Can’t wait to see the bunnies you guys come up with! If you make one before I get the flickr group set up send it to me and I’ll post it here if you’d like. I’d love to have this place jumping with bunnies. Much cuter than boxes of boxes and rolls of packing tape which is about all I’m going to have to show for myself soon.

Georgia Grows

Here’s the first member of the Spring Stitchette group, Georgia Grows…

They say Spring is here, even in Chicago. I’ll have to take their word for it. We were in the basement all day yesterday packing and sorting. This was the first hard core packing we’ve done and I started to get pretty panicked about how much there is to do. I think I’ll go back to ignoring it for a few more weeks. Fiddle-dee-dee.

thank you Josie!

Holy crap!

I cannot believe the mail the postman brought me today. I’m seriously floored. This amazing baby gift just arrived from Josie. Her note says “I’m not sure that this one will be good enough to make it on to the wall but I hope you like it anyway.” Um, yeah!! It’s gorgeous! Just look at it!

It’s putting my raggedy quickie specials to shame. The colors are perfect and the fabrics so cute and I just love the stitchy circles.

AND she knit these little booties! They’re so sweet. Have I mentioned I’ve already pulled apart two attempts at making booties since being pregnant. I’d given up hope and now I have a perfect little yellow pair. And she also made this little bib that matches this cutie gymboree onesie. gah! I love it all.

As if that wasn’t enough, she sent japanese fabric too!!!

I don’t even know what to say. I’m so touched. I’m constantly amazed at how warm and generous people I’ve met through the blogging are. I’m feeling more than a little bit guilty to be receiving such a beautiful present. Of course I’m feeling that guilt through the happy dance I’m doing all over the apartment with my new treasures.

Thank you Josie!
