some sugarplum fairies

I’ve had many ideas for birthday gifts for the chicklets, Sadie and Delia. But what do you make for the daughters of the craftiest mom of them all?! I dismissed so many ideas along the way that these presents are now far beyond belated-birthday and are falling in Christmas territory. I was finally spurred into action on this latest idea after being handed down some pastel rainbow dotted swiss and reading about S & D’s love of fancy and flashy fairies. I hope these are acceptably bedazzled!

On the fairy topic…while I was working on these gals last night I kept chuckling thinking of this too funny take on the flashiest of all fairies, the princess fairy.

topsy turvy

Phoebe may not be getting that sweater (at least not all put together) but I did finish at least one handmade gift for her. I’ve been wanting to make her a topsy turvy doll since before she arrived and finally here she is. I decided to make two versions of the same girl, an everyday version in an apron and a dressed up version with a party dress, instead of doing two separate personalities. This was such a fun project for me because it was something new. And I always wanted a topsy turvy doll and now I have one! I mean, Phoebe has one. Hmm, might need to make one for myself after the holidays.

not just hot air

Ha! I finished something. Something not even on my more important to-do’s list but something I’d been thinking about for a while. A new ornament for the tree, a little hot air balloon. Even got to use some of my new Christmas supplies. yay! and BAM! No, I haven’t been watching Emerill but Christmas around here this year has become something of a competitive sport and I find myself yelling BAM! at things a lot. Online shopping for those last few gifts.. BAM! all the decorations up.. BAM! white shirt for the holiday show at preschool found.. BAM! giftcard for the mail carrier bought.. BAM! xmas cards finally ordered.. BAM! I’m starting to get really into it now. Now that I’m making some progress I’m feeling very Christmasy.  I just had to push through the Christmas is a load of commercial crap and unnecessary excess part of the holiday that always seems to bubble up and now I’m on to the whole family fun, what gets done gets done, let’s play crafts and eat cookies part. BAM!

doll list continued, All Mine!

Unlike lists one and two, the dolls on this list live at my house instead of on my wishlist. Making these lists has brought up the collector in me and I decided it was finally time to snatch up a wawaya creation for myself. I was so excited to get this wonderful wawaya mini in the mail. It’s so clever and so tiny. I love tiny.

My next acquistion was something I spotted in my flickr stream. I gasped when I saw this guy, ran over to etsy and snatched it up for only $18! I love my pink furry, horned flummerie. And Phoebe is mesmerized by it.

The newest doll in the house is actually Oscar’s but I like to pretend that it’s mine. Super Oscar! Carol made this amazing superhero doll for Oscar to go along with the excellent “O” t-shirt with shiny cape that she also made for him. Besides being floored by her wonderful, creative and thoughtful gift (I love handmade!) I’m also relieved because making Oscar a cape was on my Christmas gift to-do list…check!

Ok, time to get off the computer and back to the sewing room for the latest doll, the one I’m making for Phoebe for Christmas.
