big girl room

Phoebe’s big girl room transformation is coming together. I think I’ve got all the structure/storage in there and now it’s time for finishing touches — painting a table and chairs, organizing shelves, making a new quilt, filling (or not) some bare walls.

For storage we ended up going with the Billy bookshelves from Ikea. I picked them for two reasons, one the shelves are adjustable and two they have the cool magazine shelves for displaying books. I think we’ll probably end up with more stuff in baskets so there’s less visual clutter but for now it’s fun for Phoebe to see everything that’s been jammed in her closet all out and ready for her to play with.

This is her favorite spot… tea party. I love it too. a nook! I gave up having the bed centered under the window so it’d create this cute little hangout.

I think we’re doing pretty good for the small space. It’s cozy. And if there’s one thing we’re all about here it’s the cozy.

4 cans of zinsser and 1 can of cottonball white

We have a new bright and happy family room at the Lang household. It’s all of our favorite things together, Ikea showroom meets garage sale treasures.

Here’s the Expedit entertainment center filled with our ginormous tv and as much vintage fisher price as I could squeeze in there.

butcher? candlestick maker?

the reason why we need the giant entertainment center, behind it is hidden a very bothersome unused door

Here’s How and When

Things are really chugging along here in organization land. I think the rest of the family is ready to be done with my sort and discard craze but it feels sooo good to finally go through stuff. It's addictive. I've been through all our clothes, the kids clothes, the kids toys, started on the basement and have gotten a good jump on the craft room. The wood paneled family room is now cottonball white and so beautiful we're kicking ourselves for not doing it 3 years earlier. And Phoebe's on day 3 of her big girl bed and her room transformation is in progress. Thanks so much for all the great advice! We're going to do a wall of shelves (I'm thinking the billy from ikea), a little desk and chairs, a mirror hung low for dress up/pretend, her chair rail moved down low for hanging dress up clothes and bags, a dresser in the closet and one of those coolio booksleeve contraptions. These are the plans. Hopefully I'll have show and tell pics soon.

In the meantime, a cute book I found while looking for furniture.

vintage childrens books

I'm embarrassed to admit this.. I haven't been to one garage sale yet this season. I have excuses — rain, soccer, etc — but really I've just be so disappointed in garage sales out here that I barely have the energy to try. Luckily my sister is still on the chase and she'll pick up the things for me that seem "hillary" to her. Thanks KT!

I love these two!Reminds me of my two (on a good day).

apples are for teachers

As are hokey, but made with love, handmade gifts from the class. When trying to think of something to make for our beloved kindergarten teacher my light bulb went off on wanting something that looks like a normal thing from one side an has the gooey sentimental underbelly on the other side. Of this was born the apple pillow…

One side is cool japanese import fabric I had in my stash with the ubiquitous apples. The other side is the kids class photos printed out on fabric and sewn on to the pillow backing with their names handwritten beneath them. Great thing about this project is it goes together super quick. I bought the printer friendly packaged fabric sheets at joanns, a pillow form, some nice sakura permanent markers and was all set to go.

scenes from the craft room

We’re gripped in end of school frenzy over here, as I imagine most everyone is. I’ve popped in to say that I sent an email out to the mailing list but it did not send. Another computer dilemma needing to be fixed. Love those. Anyhoo, the news of the day… there is another batch of Super X-Stitchettes in the shop.
