Hello hello, how are you blogaudience?! I am very happy. Halloween is OVER! And I’m not a hater, but I am so relieved. There is something about the day after Halloween that feels like the end of a marathon. I don’t know if it’s the back to school busyness, that goes into Fall sports/activities crazytown, right into PTA nuttiness, followed by autumn splendor mania, and then the trifecta of parade/party/trick or treating but after it’s over I am so relieved. The leaves are blown off the trees, the pumpkin lights and Halloween decorations are put away, it’s cold enough outside to justify just being inside chillin. And now I can just sit with a bowl of tiny candy, my quiet house, and start on my Christmas Craft list!!
little baby bear
Of course after clearing out/destashing my basement fabric supply I get the bug to make a bear from felted thrifted sweaters. I’d held on to that stuff for years! Since this era! (because Wee Wonderfuls is such a vast empire that I can refer to its past in eras) And then I tossed it all. Oh, I’ll never get around to using all that. What’s that declutter rule, if you haven’t used it in x years than toss it. And you’ll want it the next day! So of course I find myself at the thrift store last week searching for wool sweaters to felt down. Big thanks to my thriftpal Lisa who spotted a pink cashmere and wool fair isle sweater for me!
A little fuzzy bear.
quilted handbag puzzle
I made a quilted handbag for my mom for her birthday. I saw this bag on Pinterest and thought she’d like it so I went down to the Quilt Merchant and found some wool and flannels and autumnal prints and gave it a shot. To figure out the shape I cut squares of cotton and basted them together til I got it. I think I got it right. Either way it turned out cute. I pieced the squares together first, then handquilted diagonally with embroidery floss to batting. I cut a lining out in same shape, then sewed the seams of both up, sewed them together right sides together along the top edge leaving a gap to turn it rightside out. Ordered purse handles off etsy and 6 weeks later when they came I sewed them on and voila. The bag itself came together in one day. Super fun project! I kinda want my own now.
Terrible photos, but here they are.
And here is the shape I decided it was & it all taped together 3D-like.
katie kitty
Here's the kitty friend for the two dolls I just made. She's the Katie Kitty pattern from my book, Wee Wonderfuls: 24 Dolls to Sew and Love Fun to make! I haven't made an animal in a while.
crocheted hexagons
I have started another over ambitious project in a medium I know nothing about, crochet. After weeks of futsing with it here and there I think I figured out how to crochet a hexagon. Sometimes they turn out right and other times, doing the exact same thing, I get slightly different results. That happens when I crochet. So I barely know how to do this but I think I want to make an afghan of hexagons. I should totally go for it right? Who cares that I can barely join them, think I may be using the wrong kind of yarn, that I don’t know how to finish the edges and have ZERO idea what to do with the back.
I’m guessing I just put these on a tapestry needle and weave them in. The instructions I’m following say an option is to crochet ends in as I go. I don’t know how that works. I need to do some research before I continue but I probably won’t. Knitting, crochet, quilting… they are all so overwhelming when you try to learn them. I just muddle my way through. I just need an actual person to come over & show me what I need to know. A crochet fairy.
apple picking
I’m all proud of myself because we went and picked the apples before it was too late. I always miss it. Pickings were slim. And I may be imagining it, because I know it was a hard Winter for apples, but they don’t seem to taste as awesome as they normally do.
cider doughnuts are obviously harsh Winter resistant.
