Lewis, the monkey of sock

Here’s my monkey for July’s Month of Softies. I had a good time with this guy. Sock Monkeys are fun! Thanks Claire!

I picked out the socks in the mens section at the Target. There are pretty plain but I liked the gold stripe. I noticed later that they have Ls & Rs on them. The L ended up behind his left ear and that’s how he got the name Lewis. I made him a little t-shirt from some cowboy Munki Munki jersey fabric. The collar is from a vintage toddler’s shirt that I had cut up for the fabric. His stylin cord short pants have a hole in the back for his tail and an elastic waist. Sneakers are wool felt, embroidery floss and elastic and his socks are an old pair of Oscar socks modified to fit.

Oscar, of course, is not very interested in Lewis. Although he did say “monnka” and gave him a kanga kiss.

All Lewis needs now is a little cowboy hat!

vintage fabric flickr group

I have flickr fever! Do you? Kim and I started up a new flickr group, Vintage Fabric and we’ve added our photos of vintage fabric. Come join us and add your photos! Get your camera out and shoot your vintage fabrics. This will be so super cool if everyone plays. Imagine everyone’s vintage fabrics all in one place. So exciting! I’m going to start sending out invites to my contacts but you don’t need to be invited to join, just head over to vintage fabric and sign up.

apple basket bag

At last! If I ever say to you, hey let me make you a basket bag. Don’t get too excited because it very well may take me over 2 months to make it. Sorry Amy! I think finally your long overdue package is ready to be sent out. See everyone on my ‘long overdue’ list — there is hope for you yet!

Country of Origin: JP

I’ve received some of the most exciting mail lately – mail from Japan!! First I got a package of fabric that Jen in Tokyo helped me order. I chose the small cuts (30×54 cm) so I could get more patterns. Each piece should be enough for a doll dress or softies. Thanks so much Jen for helping me feed my fabric addiction! xx

The mail also brought me a package of Japanese goodies from a swap with Molly. Candy, stationary, a zakka book, Decole goodies (!!) and some beautiful fabric. Thank you so much for the swap Molly!

crocheted potholder

I’m in the middle of working on a very large overambitious project for my blog birthday next week. So what do I do instead of work on it? Decide it’s time to seriously practice my crocheting of course. I had my friend Teresa come over yesterday and give me some pointers. I was hoping she could tell me why everything I try to crochet goes so astray. I figured a few things out but I’m still so sucky at it. I tried to make this apple potholder from this vintage pattern I found. And, well, you can see how it turned out. Guess I need to buy the correct gauge yarn if I don’t want huge scary leaves. And my core is waaay off. But it is recognizable as an apple right? That’s something!

UPDATE: actually now that I’m looking at it here online, the pattern and the potholder side by side, the leaf is about right. go figure.

I was inpsired to try crochet again after getting this super cutie crocheted dollop of cream that I ordered from Cheryl in the mail last week. Thanks Cheryl for making such cute things! I love him so much. Oscar’s a big fan too. We actually took him to the park the other day. She also sent this very cute magnet which has cheered my fridge right up.
