January's new art doll design is the perennial favorite, Miss Elizabeth Bennet. With the 1995 version of Pride & Prejudice near and dear to my heart, I had to model my Lizzy after the Jennifer Ehle version of our heroine. I used the costume design and color palette of the movie as my inspiration. The costume designer, Dinah Collin, said she dressed Elizabeth in earth tones to emphasize “her practicality and active nature”. Collin wrote, “I chose colours that had an earthiness to them — a lot of browns, for example; I particularly liked her in a curry colour… Overall I wanted a nice, straightforward look that was pretty but not fussy”. I love that so much and am very excited to offer a limited series of my Elizabeth Bennet dolls so that I can play around with the fabrics I've found, and some that I've made (dyed and stamped), to match this wonderful vision of Lizzy.

Doll details: 16" tall, with firmly stuffed linen body and button joints on arms and legs. Her hair is made from dark brown super soft alpaca yarn and is permanently sewn up into a curly bun with braided crown. Her hair has curled yarn ringlets framing her face and the nape of her neck. These can be sewn in place or left loose. Elizabeth has a fully removable outfit that includes from bottom to top - wool boots, a muslin petticoat, a regency style dress with lined bodice, a linen spencer (short jacket) with facing and covered buttons, a trimmed bonnet with ribbon rosettes.

The dolls in my art doll series are carefully handcrafted dolls with more details and special features, that are less plaything and more cherished heirlooms. I have 4 spots available and the price to reserve one is $50. Please allow 3 weeks for completion. Before starting I will confirm with you a general direction on colors and fabric choices. After the doll is completed, I will send you photos and you can pay the remainder of the price. If you're not happy with your doll I'll return your deposit.

This doll is an art doll and is not intended for heavy play and is not for children under 3. There are handsewn parts that could come unattached and become hazardous. Spot clean as needed.
